Reed & Barton Silver Trinket Box

Reed & Barton, a silversmith manufacturer based in Taunton, Massachusetts, was licensed by Disney to produce this silver-plated round trinket box. Snow White is shown on the lid holding a bluebird with an embossed banner below her. A burgundy velvet cardboard originally lined the inside.

The container measures 3.5" across and 1.437" tall (91 x 37mm).

Bottom stamp reads, "© Disney, Reed & Barton", plus the number 381.

No indication is given as to the year of manufacture, but one online re-seller states that it's at least 15 years old and probably quite a bit older than that.

Snow White Toffee Tin

The "happily ever after" scene from Snow White is depicted on the lid of this round theme park tin. Measures 8.5" across.

The photo of the bottom label is slightly out of focus, but we can see that the tin once held 13 ounces of chocolate covered almond butter toffee. The smaller print indicates distribution by Walt Disney Attractions (WDA).

WDA got its start in 1971 with the opening of Walt Disney World. The Disney subsidiary changed its name to Walt Disney Parks and Resorts in the mid-2000s. So it's probable that our tin dates from the early 2000s or mid to late 1990s.

1958 Reynolds Wrap Wall Plaques

The Reynolds Metal Company teamed up with Disney for a supermarket promotion during the 1958 US re-release of Snow White. A set of eight plastic wall plaques could be had by happy shoppers just by mailing in $1.00 plus the seal from any Reynolds Wrap carton.

Snow White...or should we say Red?
The promotion was outlined in the 1958 Snow White pressbook. Examples of the Dopey and Grumpy plaques are seen with Snow in a store display.

The rest of the Dwarfs...

The plaques were produced using a vacuum mold process.

Different manufacture runs resulted in slightly different color shades.
This one also displays the "Walt Disney Productions" imprint along the top.
The original shipping box with a return label marked, "from SNOW WHITE PLAQUES, 310 W. Washington Blvd., Chicago 6, Illinois." A date of 4/10/58 is written on the lid.

1958 US 30x40 Snow White Poster

Buena Vista also issued this fresh-looking 30" x 40" Snow White poster during the 1958 campaign. It's the same size as a British Quad, though it runs in a vertical direction rather than horizontal.

The first Snow White re-release to be distributed by Buena Vista.

1958 Non-Buena Vista Pressbook

Another English-language Snow White pressbook was produced in 1958, in addition to the one seen in the previous post. The content is similar except this book is smaller in size (8.5" x 11"), with only 24 instead of 28 pages (including covers). What's most interesting, though, is that this edition does not reference the Buena Vista Film Distribution Company.
On the front cover of the larger version, the Buena Vista logo is clearly displayed in the lower right corner. It's absent on the smaller edition.

References to Buena Vista are also missing from the text inside. One example is seen in the animation credits box. On the left, it's clearly listed as a BV re-release. On the right, no BV credit;
The placement and layout of the pages are a bit different too, particularly because the smaller book lacks the publicity stories. BV version (top). Sans BV (below).
The Buena Vista logo has been removed from all of the newspaper ad slicks as well. The rest of the pressbook is laid out as follows.

Buena Vista does get one mention in the text, but it may have been an oversight. In the BV pressbook from the previous post, the "Special Accessory" order form was located next to the last page and along side an ad for a 20 foot streamer. That streamer ad is still on the last page of this book, but the order form seems out of place here on page 10.

The rear cover is identical to the larger version, and the poster images do include the Buena Vista logo.

This smaller edition of the 1958 pressbook was probably intended for an international market where a film distribution company, other than Buena Vista, would be utilized.
