Snow White Glossy Promotional Stills, 1937-38

During the initial release of Snow White, among the treasure trove of promotional materials available to theatre owners was a series of twenty 8x10 hand-colored glossy stills. Sold for 15¢ each in lots of eight or more (or 20¢ a piece for lesser quantities), these would be used in a variety of ways to promote the film.

Gustaf Tenggren's sketch of Snow White in the dark forest is one of the most striking of all the prints.

Sold in auction on August 21, 2011 for $155.35 (USD).

Snow White 8x10 Publicity Stills

These photographs were part of a large collection purchased from a former Disney art director who retired after 40 years. Within the company, the photos are often reprinted and used as guides by artists in the creative merchandising division when they design character merchandise and collectibles.

The press kit 8x10s distributed to theater owners usually contain text in the lower frame of the photo with the letter "R" and a year, indicating the theatrical re-release of the film. These "in-house" photographs do not have any such markings.

Walt Disney's World on Ice - Press Kit

This press kit is for Disney's "World on Ice" production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Dates from 1994-1997. Housed in a colorful envelope, the kit included five 8x10 B+W publicity stills from the show.
